A torn boot throws grease. A worn outer joint clicks on a full-lock turn. Inner joints clunk on takeoff. 2WD vs 4WD changes the shaft they pull.
Do not buy two axles because one boot ripped. The quiet side can wait if the boot is intact.
DIY
Hub nut torque and a stubborn spline are how weekend jobs become tow trucks. Experienced DIY with a torque spec can do it.
Tools: None for the look. A torque spec if you turn wrenches.
In the aisle
The parts person does not start with a SKU. They start with the engine and whether it is 2WD or 4WD. Answer from the bay ticket when we have it.
