Coolant temp below thermostat

The engine is not reaching the temperature the thermostat is supposed to open at. A stuck-open thermostat is the usual part. A low coolant level or a lying temp sensor is the other story.

Do not throw a water pump from P0128. Check the first-running temp and the coolant level.

DIY

You can do this

On many fours this is a driveway job if you can catch the drained coolant. Housing-integrated stats are messier.

Check the overflow is between the marks when cold.
If you replace the stat, match the temperature rating stamped on the old one.
Bleed the system the way the manual says — trapped air is a new overheat.
