DIY-safe driveway job
This is the filter that cleans the air you breathe. It lives behind the glove box on most cars. Shops charge $80–$120 for a 10-minute clip job. If the AC smells like a wet sock or the windshield fogs, look here first.

How to PERFECTLY Maintain your First Car
The first-car video includes a real cabin-filter swap: airflow arrow, moldy old filter, and the glove-box cover. Jump to the cabin-filter chapter.

I will replace the cabin filter myself. If you already have it open, I only want the part at cost — not an hour of labor.
Ask at the shop
If they already charged cabin-filter labor, ask to see the old filter. An $80 labor line on a clip job is the classic pad.

Replace an in-line fuel filter (when your car still has one)
Older Fords, Mazdas, and some trucks have a filter on the frame. Many modern cars hid it in the tank — there is no $18 canister to swap. If the manual has no interval, do not let a shop invent one. Fuel is flammable. Depressurize first.

Replace the engine air filter
The engine air filter sits in a black plastic box in the engine bay. A clogged one makes the car feel tired and can trip a MAF-related code. Pop the clips, photograph the old one, drop the new one in the same orientation. Ten minutes.
EV
EV owner: there is no oil change — here is what still wears
A battery-electric car has no engine oil, no spark plugs, and no trans drain in the gasoline sense. You still have a 12-volt battery, tires, brake fluid, cabin filter, and coolant for the battery/inverter loop. Shops that quote an oil change on a Tesla are reading the wrong menu.
