DIY-safe driveway job

Replace windshield wiper blades

Streaks in the rain are a $20 part, not a $70 wiper service. Most arms are a J-hook: lift, press the tab, slide off, click the new one on. Measure the old blades — driver and passenger are often different lengths. Do not let the bare arm smack the glass.

Safety

Hold the arm when the blade comes off. It will spring into the glass.
Winter: do not rip a blade frozen to the windshield.

Steps · beginner-friendly

Look up sizes or measure the old rubber. Buy the pair plus the rear if you have one.
Lift the arm. Press the lock tab. Slide the old blade off the hook.
Slide the new blade on until it clicks. Tug it. Lower gently onto the glass.
Repeat the other side. Spray washer fluid and wipe on low. No chatter, no streaks.
