This is the filter that cleans the air you breathe. It lives behind the glove box on most cars. Shops charge $80–$120 for a 10-minute clip job. If the AC smells like a wet sock or the windshield fogs, look here first.
Do not pay an hour of labor for a clip job you can do in the driveway. If they already opened it, you want the old filter in a bag and the part at cost.

Most drop the glove box. Photograph the airflow arrow before you pull the old one.
